Superintendent's Monthly Message - May 2017

CJ CammackMUSD Community,

There is no way anyone could actually be counting down days to the end of the school year, right? I didn’t think so!  But, if on the odd chance there might be just that one person out there who is counting, we have twenty-eight days of school left before the school year ends.  As you already know, the next six weeks will be full of exciting school events.  For some of our students it may mark the transition from one school to another or even the end of their journey in Martinez Unified. No matter what the end of the year marks for you or for your student, let’s make the next six the very best we can for everyone!

Thank you to the Martinez Police Department for their excellent service to our community.  Last week we had a very unusual event develop in close proximity to John Muir Elementary, and as you know we closed school for a day at John Muir.  Our MPD officers and leadership provided great communication to my office and could then respond in a timely manner to maximize the safety of our students, our staff, and our community.

This event also serves as a great reminder regarding safety, especially related to communication. In any emergency situation, it is crucial that your emergency information is up to date. To review and update your information, please login to Aeries Web.  Click "Student Info", then "Data Confirmation", then "Contacts".  If any contact needs to be updated, select that contact and click "Edit."

Congratulations to the students of AHS who put on an incredible production last week of Urinetown.  I really enjoyed hearing from so many people how much they loved the production and performances. The set designs, performances, and technical support all received fantastic reviews. Great job by our students and all the staff who support such a great program. A special thank you to Mr. Gerry Wiener for all the time and commitment he gives toward a great production every year.

We are only able to find our highest level of success when we leverage all our resources and efforts toward the same goal.  I would to thank our PTA groups in Martinez for all they do to support the students and staff in our schools.  This year I attended the dinner auctions for John Swett, Morello Park, and John Muir.  All three were great events that showcased how our community is willing to get behind the work of our students and the goals of our schools.  I am looking forward to the incredible Las Juntas carnival and auction on May 12th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Our PTA’s at MJHS and AHS also do so much to help support schools through fundraising and putting on special events for students such as Grad Night at AHS.  The Martinez Junior High  PTSA is putting on a great event this month, be sure to check out the Color Blast 5K.  You won’t want to miss this explosion of color and fun in Martinez!  Details are provided below.

In closing, good luck to all our students in MUSD as they complete a variety of tests as part of our statewide accountability system (CAASPP). We want all students to perform at their highest level possible, but we also want students to remember that their full intelligence, value, character, and personal strength cannot be quantified by standardized tests. I am proud of our students in Martinez Unified!
